Gabion Baskets

Gabions are wire mesh boxes filled with stone, used for retaining walls, riverbank protection, erosion control and landscaping. Anping supplies both types: welded gabions (rigid, sharp appearance, popular in Europe for architecture) and woven hexagonal gabions (flexible, cheaper, standard for civil works).

How to evaluate a gabion quote

  1. Check mesh size — welded gabions are quoted per m² or per basket; woven per m²
  2. Wire diameter before coating, and zinc coating weight (g/m²)
  3. Panel or roll origin — some suppliers buy mesh elsewhere and only assemble
  4. Accessories: spiral wires, clips, stiffeners/bracing wires (often excluded and needed!)
  5. Flat-packed volume per container — welded gabions ship knocked-down, ~15–20 m³ per 40'HC

FAQ

How much stone does a 1×1×1 m basket hold?

About 1.5–1.7 tonnes of 100–200 mm stone. Order stone locally — shipping stone is never economic.

Welded vs woven — which for my project?

Welded: architecture, landscaping, straight walls, longer life. Woven: river works, dams, uneven terrain — it flexes without breaking.

Typical MOQ?

One container of baskets (usually 200–400 welded units or 5000+ m² woven). Anping factories accept mixed-size container loads.
